Waterfront Sports becomes Liquid Motion Watersports!

With the transformation of Waterfront Sports into Liquid Motion Watersports, this Blog is being replaced with a Facebook Page:

I'll shall be putting up my session reports there.

Hopefully it'll make it easier to know what everyone's getting up to, and what beaches are working.

See you there!

Dawlish waves

Quite nice shoulder high waves this Saturday morning.

Wind didn't last long. Started cross-on then went side shore before dropping.
Managed to get in a few nice rides and jumps.

Thursday wind and waves

Super gusty westerly at Exmouth. Half a dozen windsurfers out and a bit too windy for kites. Great!

Just about held down my 4.5 but 4.0 or 3.7 would have been better. Nice waist high waves at low tide. Only got over powered on a couple of rides so pretty happy!

Bit too stacked in the air for anything other than getting hang time and some nice old school tabletops (the only jump I do that's better on starboard tack - have to work on that!)

Exmouth Waves

Tuesday 26th

Went out at dead low tide. Nice, head waves that kept getting better. After a shaky start the wind got better too.

Exmouth seems to generate good, clean waves even when it's onshore. I guess it's when a good sized swell hits the outer sand bars.

However it does it, you get pretty hollow sections to hit. And, of course those sections make great ramps for big jumps!

Quick nip up the M5

Yesterday had a quick trip to Burnham-on-sea, for the northwesterly.

Plenty of wind for my twinfin and a fun little wave wrapping around the island. Did feel a little chilly on the hands and head for the first time this autumn.

Nice jumping ramps as well.

Forecast for the weekend changes everyday. Monday - wind. Tuesday - no wind. Today - yes wind. So who knows. Not the forecasters anyway!

Big ..... Bigbury

Saturday 9th October

Big wave carnage - broken gear and long swims.

I played things pretty safe and managed to avoid any mishaps. Did pick off a few monsters though - no mean feat, it was pretty offshore at the peak and the swells fast moving.
I used my floaty Quad just to be able to catch waves whilst heading up wind.

Fancy Some Waves Today

Since last posting there has been some wind - nothing special but nice to a have a sail or two a week.

Mostly Exmouth and Minehead. Fun jumping at Minehead.

Need some wave riding though, so off to Westward Ho this afternoon - hopefully will be nice.

Cheers,
Giles

Summertime North Westerly

Sunny and NW'ly is the time to head up to the Bristol Channel. The sea breeze really does boost up the gradient wind

Last Wednesday evening saw 5.0m conditions on my JP Twin at Doniford. And a ridable wave. A good mixture of nice front and backside riding and fun jumping.

Doniford is really taking over as my favourite spot on that stretch of coast.

Come the weekend the wind had largely gone of course. However that Bristol Channel sea breeze filled in again so I had a fun jumping session at Minehead (5.4 & Starboard Quad).
The low tide reef at Minehead is great for jumping, due to the flat water run up. Great riding on its day - watch those barnacles!

Wind! Wind! Wind! Wind! Wind! Wind!

Yes, it's back. Wednesday and Thursday look like the best days.

I'm going to try make it out for the Exmouth low tide (around mid to late afternoon).

See you there,

Giles.

Now where was I

Oh yes, I remember - Windsurfing!
What a quiet couple months it's been. What with the poor weather (well, for windsurfers anyway) and the ridiculously early arrival of our new baby!

Bit of a southwesterly last Sunday so I hope you managed to get out there. Slim pickings at the moment.

I've managed a few sessions at Bigbury - really enjoying the Starboard Quad 86. I didn't use it a lot during the winter, but I was sure it would be a great summer board for me. Very nice with my new Naish Boxer 5.4. Really different sail - lots of fun, so light - feels more like a 4.5!

Talking of Naish, looks like they will have a thruster (tri-fin) for 2011. Starboard will as well (a new Evo) to go alongside the quad. RRD will have a quads as well.

I suppose it will be upgrade time soon so, make me an offer!

Obviously there's the quad. And I might be persuaded to part with my beloved 2009 JP Twin 84. Sail wise there's 2008 Rocks in 5.0 and 4.5 and also a 2004 Rock 4.0.

Cheers,
Giles

Light evenings and the wind is back

Good of the wind to return in time for the clocks going forward.
I've managed to sail 3 evenings this week.

1 session at my favorite point break (doniford). 4.5m, cross-off, head to logo high and super long waves. Just about perfect really. It's still my own secret spot - even thought I've been telling people about it for, well, years! (A bit like Jeff Clark and Mavericks! Err no.)

Then 2 evenings at Exmouth enjoying the combination of a 5.0m and the Quad 86. It's such a different board from my twinfin but I'm starting to get it figured out. I think it's going to be really good for my sailing.

Anyway, the wind seems to be getting up - hopefully low tide Exmouth will be good today.

Gotta get some wind

Um looks like a WNW is building in the Bristol Channel.
Incoming tide though, 'till 4:30

I'm going to check out Doniford at about mid tide onwards.
The wave buoy is showing the swell coming up a little bit.

The Wind is Back!

It's been a bit of a wait but I've finally used a board with a sail on, rather than with all this paddling around getting cold nonsense!
Got in yesterday (Friday) at Doniford which has a nice point break setup with the tide down a bit (it turns into reef break at high tide).
That meant long ride on waves that were clean, even with sideshore 4.5m weather. Sunny too. Nice.

Sunday looks like a wet and windy NWly. My current thoughts are either Bigbury or Minehead. The wind looks best earlier rather than later. Minehead would have to early with the noon low tide. It's a pretty big tide so I'll just have to see in the morning what the wave conditions are like.
